From Market Vendor to Class Captain
At 12, Asharaf was out of school selling roasted maize at Owino Market in Kampala to help his grandmother afford rent. He hadn’t been to class in 2 years and was at risk of dropping out permanently. He slept in the market stall some nights.
Through our child sponsorship program, James re-enrolled in P4 in 2024 with fees, uniform, and books covered. Two years later, he’s top of his P6 class in math and was elected class captain. He wants to be a civil engineer. He now lives with his grandmother in a secure rental, and still visits the market - but only to say hi to friends.
